Demand for Rhode Island medical marijuana reaches new High

While state lawmakers consider legalizing recreational marijuana this year, sales of medical marijuana continue to hit new highs.

The main reason isn't just that many people are sick, state regulators say.

The nation's three medical marijuana dispensaries are on pace to sell about $56 million worth of medicinal marijuana in 2019, stated Norman Birenbaum, the states head marijuana regulator.

And this year itself was record-breaking, selling $38.2 million worth of marijuana this year, a third more than in fiscal 2017.

The list of qualifying conditions to qualify for medical marijuana program is rather short but also broad, such as acute pain or muscular spasms. And some doctors, have been ready to prescribe medicinal marijuana recommendations for a huge section of Rhode Island's 18,200 registered patients with few questions asked, Birenbaum said.
